EnduroPacks recently sent me a bottle of their liquid electrolytes to test.
The liquid electrolytes come in a 2-ounce bottle that makes 30 servings. There’s no carbs, calories or added sugar. For both of those reasons, I already like the product over other “electrolyte replacement” or sports drinks. Less single-use plastic and no added calories or sugar.
What are electrolytes?
I’m no expert, but I did a little homework and here’s a synopsis of what I found.
Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electric charge. They regulate nerve and muscle function. They also balance blood pressure. help rebuild damaged tissues and more.
Why do we need electrolytes?
When we exercise, our electrolyte balance begins to shift – we lose electrolytes through our sweat. When we lose too many electrolytes, we can experience muscle cramps and spasms, fatigue, nausea and several other symptoms (source: https://medlineplus.gov.)
Now that our “science” lesson is over, let’s get to the product.
Liquid Electrolytes
I was very interested in this product because it offers a no calorie, portable solution to aid in rehydration and recovery. As an Alaskan spending time hiking and biking in the Midwest and the southeastern United States in June, I knew I’d feel better if I upped my hydration game.
The 2-ounce bottle is small and lightweight. I’ve carted it around on several flights in my carry on luggage and thrown it in my day pack on several occasion. I’m happy to report no leaks!
I didn’t want the heat and humidity to keep me indoors during my summer trip to the southeast. I can certainly tell a difference when I use the product. I recently hiked over 10 miles -when it was 90+ degrees out and close to 90% humidity. (Seriously, southerners deserve a medal for being able to get things done in those temps). I was out for about 4 hours during the hottest part of the day. I was sweating. A lot. It was not pretty.
Part way through the hike, I added 10 squirts to my water bottle. It’s got a great light lemon taste, which makes it easy to drink. Sometimes the sugary sports drinks can give me a stomachache, I did not experience that with the liquid electrolytes.
I’ve been using the liquid electrolytes from EnduroPacks consistently for 3 weeks. During that time, I also started back up on a running program. I’ve noticed less soreness in my legs after my runs. I’ve had better recovery and generally felt better when out recreating in the heat and humidity.
Pros:
- Tastes great
- No calories or sugar
- Lightweight and portable
- Faster recovery after a workout
Cons:
- I don’t see where they sell a larger refill bottle.
