The Bubi Bottle is a collapsible silicone water bottle. It’s BPA free, heat resistant and dishwasher/microwave safe. They also make a collapsible pet bowl that fits right on top of the lid. Bubi sent me a 35 oz. bottle and collapsible pet bowl to review.
We’ve been using the Bubi Bottle for a while now and I have to say overall, I really like it. I usually carry a water bladder in all but the coldest of temperatures. It was a little bit of a change for me to add this to my pack, but it’s now become a staple.
Bubi Bottle
Weight-wise it’s comparable to a Nalgene bottle that holds the same amount of water, but for me where it really stood out was how small it packs down. The carabiner on the bottle is shaped so you can keep the bottle rolled up. Other collapsible bottles I tried could be smushed down, but didn’t have a way to keep them small when empty. I’ll probably be taking the bottle with my on flights in my carry on because of this.
I didn’t notice any particular smell or taste when using the bottle (admittedly I don’t have the keenest sense of smell or taste – lol). The bottle is made of medical grade silicone. It seems very durable. It’s easy to clean, since you can throw it in the dishwasher. No dishwasher, no problem. Just flip the bottle inside out and clean it.
I do have a couple of minor issues with the bottle. Dirt seems to “stick” to the bottle. I’m not sure if this will get better with use or not. I may not know until spring, as our snow is likely here to stay (fingers crossed!). I’m typically carrying this in an outside pocket, so it’s not a huge deal.
The bottle is a bit wobbly. I haven’t been able to set the bottle on the ground with the bowl on top of it and let my dogs drink out of it. They just knock it over. So I either wedge it in between some rocks, partially bury it in the snow or just hold it.
Bubi Pet Bowl
This collapsible bowl (or cup), fits on the lid of the Bubi bottle. The bowl itself doesn’t have a bottom. The lid of the bottle, becomes the bottom of the bowl.
At first I thought the bowl would be too small. Turns out, it actually holds the amount of water my dogs will drink on breaks while hiking. We have larger collapsible pet bowls, and I often find myself dumping out some water after a break.
It took me a little time to get used to which way the bowl opens up and fits on the bottle. Pro tip – the carabiner goes on top. It’s not hard to fit on the lid, and I haven’t had the bowl leak on me.
The carabiner on both the bottle and the bowl make it easy to keep them together in my pack. I usually just clip the bowl to the bottle, so they’re always together.
Multi-use Water Bottle and Bowl
So I haven’t actually used it for any of the following things, but I like the idea that it can function as more than one thing. Here’s a few features that you might find useful.
- It’s freezer safe (it may have frozen in my car once or twice – but not on purpose)
- It’s heat resistant – it can be placed over a fire or in the microwave
- It’s waterproof and floats – so you could use it as a dry container while camping or boating.
- You could use the bowl as a cup
I haven’t lost any parts yet, but it’s important to me to find products that you can get parts for. Our society has become so used to things being cheaper to replace than repair. So I try to support companies that offer replacement parts and repair options.
Pros:
- Packs small
- Multi-use
- Easy to clean
- Holds hot or cold drinks
- Carabiner keeps it small – no unrolling in your pack
- Appropriately sized pet bowl
- You can get replacement parts
Cons:
- Dirt sticks to it (maybe will get better with use)
- A little on the wobbly side
